Paula Melvin
President of Conradh na Gaeilge
Paula Melvin is the President of Conradh na Gaeilge, a social and cultural organisation that works to promote the Irish language and protect its place in Irish society. In her role, she has outlined a number of main goals and priorities, including focusing on the National Housing Planning Policy for the Gaeltacht and continuing the longstanding campaign for language rights in the north.
Paula is also working on initiatives regarding the newly amended Official Languages Act in the south, ensuring that all deadlines for implementing the amendments are fulfilled. In addition, she will be working towards regular use of Irish in the EU following the granting of full status to Irish in the EU.
Ms. Melvin has also stated that she plans to visit as many local branches of Conradh na Gaeilge as possible and to support them through the challenges they have faced during the pandemic. As President of Conradh na Gaeilge, Paula is committed to establishing and preserving the Irish language and will be sharing her insights and experiences on these efforts at the Linguists Collective Conference and Celebration of International Mother Language Day on 21 February 2023.
